June Action continues into July...
On Wednesday June 15th at 1700 hrs
Stations 38 & 37 were dispatched to the Woods Rood School
on Southwoods Rd. in 38's primary for the reported smoke
condition. 38-C1 arrived on-scene with command reporting a
small fire in the bathroom with heavy smoke charging the
area. The fire was quickly extinguished and all units were
cleared by 1815 hrs. On Saturday June 26th @ 2154 hrs
Station 37 was dispatched to Route 206 & Dukes Parkway
West for vehicle vs stone wall. Engine 37-103 & Support
37-151 operated on-scene with a vehicle that went through
the intersection and through a section of the Dukes Farms
stone wall. Units cleared the scene by 2300 hrs. On
Saturday July 2nd @ 1710 hrs Station 37 was requested to
assist Rescue-79 with the 2-vehicle MVA
w/double-entrapment & vehicle on fire at the intersection
of Route 206 & Dukes Parkway East. Units arrived on-scene
with the fire knocked down and assisted Rescue-79 in
patient care and setting up a landing zone for Northstar
Medivac which landed in the southbound lanes of Route 206
just south of the scene. All units cleared the scene by
1830 hrs. Again on Tuesday July 5th @ 2055 hrs (just after
our monthly meeting cleared), Station 37 was dispatched to
assist Rescue-79 @ the scene of an MVA w/entrapment at the
intersection of Auten Rd. & Triangle Rd. Chief 37, Engine
37-103 & Support 37-151 responded with nine personnel and
stood-by while Rescue-79 performed the extrication of one
individual. 37-141 and 37-145 handled a brush fire at AVM
Park with Station 36 while the other 37 units operated at
the MVA. All units were cleared by 2200 hrs.
First parade of the year and we come up a winner!
Congratulations to Bob Brady
and the members of Station 37 who helped get Tower Ladder
37-116 ready for the Middlesex 100th anniversary parade.
We were presented with a first place trophy for Best
Appearing Aerial, Platform, Tower or Snorkel. One down,
many more to go!

Busy start to June
On Friday June
10th at approx 02:30, Stations 37 & 38 were alerted to 141
Chandler Ct. in 37's primary for the reported kitchen
fire. PD arrived on scene with smoke showing and a working
fire, which had responding officers requesting Station 30
(Finderne) for their FAST team. Arriving FD officers made
a quick knock with dry chem. extinguishers, and the crews
of 37-102 and 37-116 assisted with searches, ventilation
and any remaining suppression. Fire damage itself was
contained to the refrigerator with some extension to the
flooring, walls and cabinets. All units cleared the scene
by 03:45. (Pictures to be added soon)
Later that night at approx. 21:30
Station 37 was alerted to the area of Westin Rd. near the new construction site
for a reported fire in the woods. 37-C1 arrived within minutes to find a 20'
high by 50' long pile of mulch burning. He immediately requested assistance from
Station 36, Station 38 and NJ Forest Fire Service, as well as heavy equipment
from Somerset County to assist in getting to the seat of the fire. Tanker supply
was established on Westin Rd. for refilling of the multiple brush units
on-scene. All units eventually cleared the scene by 02:30 on Saturday June 11th.
May Drill of the Month - Forcible Entry at SCESTA
On May 24th, (17) members of Station 37 participated in a
Forcible Entry drill at the Somerset County Emergency
Services Training Academy. Members enhanced their skills
on forcing entry to locked doors, barred windows and
padlocked areas.


We end the month of April with an MVA at Rt.206 &
Valley Rd.


Afternoon 3rd
Alarm House Fire
On April 19th at 1409 hrs Stations 37 & 36 were alerted to 149
New Amwell Rd. for the reported brush fire. As personnel began arriving at the
station, police arrived on-scene to find heavy fire showing from the rear of the
house and already into the attic area of a large 2.5-story wood frame house.
Units battled the blaze in 80-degree temperatures for hours, and one firefighter
was transported to the hospital for exhaustion. Units on-scene: Station 37
(Hillsborough #2), Station 36 (Hillsborough #1), Station 38 (Hillsborough #3),
Station 48 (Neshanic), Station 42 (Manville), Station 30 (Finderne - FAST Team),
EMS 79, Station 37 Ladies Aux., Hillsborough PD and Hillsborough Fire Safety.
Units on covers: Station 42 (Manville), Station 45 (Montgomery), Station 32
(Readington), and Station 57 (Somerville). While on cover assignments units ran
three other calls for Station 37. All units finally cleared the scene by 2130
hrs. The Hillsborough Fire Safety Office along with the Somerset County
Prosecutors Office are investigating the cause. Note: Station 37 has run
20 calls in this mid-April five-day period. A huge "thank you" to the
firefighters and families for their time and dedication in the last few days!

Busy Start to April
On April 8th, Station 37 along with most of the other fire
companies in Somerset County was alerted to standby at their station due to a
48-inch water main that broke in Bound Brook that was causing little to no water
pressure to be available in several counties. Units ran one alarm while on
standby, and the water situation was somewhat restored by 2100 hrs.
On April 14th at 1449 hrs Stations 37 & 38 were alerted to a
vehicle fire in the driveway at the intersection of Arlene Ct. & Scott Dr. in
38's primary. A good stop by crews on the scene limited damage to the vehicle
and part of the exterior of the dwelling. At 1748 hrs Stations 37 & 38 were
again alerted, this time for a reported brush fire at 231 Woods Rd. in
38's primary. Responding units observed a large column of smoke in the distance,
and as 38 Command arrived the box was upgraded to a working vacant garage fire
with extension to the surrounding brush. Mutual aid for a tanker and brush units
were requested from Station 28 (Millstone Valley) and the NJ Forest Fire
Service. The garage was basically a total loss, and units cleared the scene by
2030 hrs.
On April 18th at 1747 hrs Stations 37 & 38 were alerted to
a working dumpster fire with exposure at 6-16 Ilene Ct. in 37's primary. Crews
from Engine 38-104 and 37-102 quickly extinguished the fire without extension to
the surrounding box trucks, and crews cleared the scene by 1815 hrs.
2nd Alarm on Newell St.
On Thursday,
March 17th @ 15:58 Stations 37 and 36 were dispatched to
14 Newell St. in 37's primary area for the reported
structure fire. Units confirmed the fire due to a large loom-up while responding
and upgraded the job to a confirmed working fire, bringing in Station 38 and
Station 48 (Neshanic) to the scene. Units arrived with heavy fire showing from
the garage of a 2.5-story woodframe duplex, but due to an outstanding stop by
crews the fire was contained to the garage and attic area with some extension
into the bedroom above and the interior wall. While at the fire, cover units
handled a dryer fire on Claudia Rd. in 37's primary. Units on-scene: Station 37
(Hillsborough #2), Station 36 (Hillsborough #1), Station 38 (Hillsborough #3),
Station 48 (Neshanic), Station 30 FAST (Finderne), EMS 79 (Hillsborough),
Hillsborough PD, Somerset County Mutual Aid Coordinators, and Hillsborough Fire
Safety units 661 & 662. Units on covers: Station 42 (Manville), Station 28
(Millstone Valley), and Station 45 (Montgomery #1).

Busy Saturday to start off March
On Tuesday,
March 15th @ 15:12 Stations 37 and 36 were dispatched to assist EMS 79 at
Roycefield Rd. near the intersection of Dukes Parkway West for the motor vehicle
accident with rollover. Units
from 37 & 36 cleared the scene within 45 minutes.
Busy Saturday to start off March
On Saturday,
March 5th Stations 37
was requested to standby for Franklin Twp. District 1 as a
result of their annual installation dinner. While on cover, Station 37 ran two
calls into the district including a 2nd Alarm High-Rise box at the Marriott on
Davidson Ave. in Somerset for smoke in the building. In addition units responded
to two other calls in 37's primary including a reported structure fire on Taylor
Ave. which turned out to be open burning.
Busy Night for Station 37
On Sunday,
February 27th @ 19:43 Units from Stations 37 and 36 were dispatched to 1 Liberty
Trail in 37's first-due for the reported structure fire with flames showing from
the roof area. 37-C2 arrived on-scene within minutes reporting flames showing
from the chimney, and a FAST team from Finderne was requested to the scene along
with additional mutual aid from Station 38. Station 37 units 37-103, 37-102,
37-116, 37-151 and Car 37 operated on the scene with 24 personnel. Units cleared
the scene by 21:30.

At 20:11 Stations 37 & 38 were
dispatched for a second structure fire at a deli at 390 Route 206 in 37's
first-due. Units from 36 and 38 broke free from the fire on Liberty Trail to
handle this job. 36-C2 established command and reported heavy smoke in the
store. Source was determined to be food on the stove, units ventilated and
cleared the scene by 21:00.
Shortly after members got the
apparatus back in service, Stations 37 and 36 were dispatched to 595 Auten Rd.
in 37's first-due at 21:52 for the water heater on fire. 36-101 arrived first
with 36-C2 establishing command; interior crews reported an electrical fire
involving the electric water heater with extension to the surrounding area.
Crews from 36-101 quickly took care of the situation and all units were cleared
from the scene by 22:15.

completed, and we're now beginning various other renovations around the house.

Rollover on Auten Rd.
On Sunday,
February 19th @ 23:00 Units from Station 37 were dispatched along with 79-Rescue
to the area of Auten Rd. & Cockatiel Dr. for the MVA w/rollover. 37-103
responded in and found...nothing...the vehicle had been uprighted and removed
prior to FD arrival. Units cleared the scene within minutes.
Mutual Aid to Manville
On Sunday,
February 19th @ 13:43 Station 37 were requested mutual aid into Manville to the
area of North 21st Ave & North St. for the brush fires along the railroad
tracks. 37-141, 37-145 and 37-102 responded to the scene and cleared within 30
mins.
Food on the Stove
On Friday,
February 17th @ 23:35 Station 37 Fire was dispatched to 123 Hollow Oak Ct. for
the odor of smoke. Hillsborough PD, arriving first on-scene, found a visible
smoke condition in the structure. 1st-arriving officers from Station 37
requested Stations 36 and 38 to re dispatched as well on the possible structure
fire. EMS was also requested for the semi-conscious victim with smoke
inhalation. After the source was determined to be food on the stove, Station 36
& 38 were cancelled. Units from 37 cleared within 45 mins.
Valentine's Day Vehicle
Fire
On Monday,
February 14th @ 08:00 Stations 37 & 38 were dispatched to a working vehicle fire
in 37's first-due area on Route 206 just north of Homestead Rd. Since both
companies were already operating at a nearby activated alarm, units arrived
on-scene quickly and extinguished the fire. All units were clear within 45 mins.
Rollover on Amwell Rd.
On Friday, February 11th at 16:16 Stations 37
& 38 Fire were dispatched along with 79-Rescue to Amwell Rd. near the railroad
overpass in 37's first-due area for the reported MVA w/rollover. 37-103 and
37-151 arrived on-scene with a vehicle that left the roadway, launched off the
guardrail airborne and landed on the front lawn of 339 Amwell Rd. Units stood-by
while the vehicle was removed, and all units cleared within 45 mins.

MVA w/Vehicle Fire on Route
206
On Monday, February 7th @ 22:03 Station 37
Fire was dispatched to the area of Route 206 near the Montgomery Twp. border in
37's first-due area for the vehicle vs. tree that was now on fire. Montgomery
Twp. Station 45 was also dispatched due to the location of the incident being on
the border of Hillsborough and Montgomery. The crew of Engine 37-103 went to
work with a 1.75" foam line while 37-102 supplied them and Station 45 assisted
with gaining access to the trunk area of the vehicle using the Hurst tools.
37-151 provided support on-scene filling used air cylinders. All units were
clear of the scene within 60 mins.
